Our NZ History

Focus on the Family began in the United States in 1977, founded by Dr. James Dobson. What started with a single radio programme titled “Let’s Get Acquainted” quickly grew into a global ministry offering support, encouragement, and practical tools for families. Today, Focus on the Family is headquartered in Colorado Springs, employing over 880 staff and operating in 28 countries worldwide — all with the same vision: to see families thrive.

Focus on the Family New Zealand

Though officially registered in 2007, Focus on the Family has been broadcasting in New Zealand since the 1980s, bringing a message of hope and restoration to Kiwi families. With a strong emphasis on practical advice for marriage, parenting, and everyday family life, our local office remains deeply connected to the wider international mission. Thanks to our close relationship with the USA team, we have access to a vast library of trusted, research-based resources that equip, empower, and bring healing to families across Aotearoa.
